The Contender World Championship is off to a dramatic start this week as conditions presented a variety of wind and swell direction and intensity. The persistent South-West swell pounded the beautifully crafted wood and glass race hulls as winds volleyed left and right, velocities bounced, and the Giant Dipper looking on with smug approval. The variety of tactical trials for every leg of the race escalated competitor emotions and drained their strength and served as the principal warmup for the remaining days of world class racing.
Congratulations to the first finishers and to all competitors for completing their first day of racing here in Santa Cruz, California.
First Place Finishers (Day 1):
Gary Langdon (GBR 2439) of Highcliffe Sailing Club
Soren Dulong Andreasen (DEN-1) of Hellerup Sejlklub
