The Buona Sera, a Santa Cruz 70 out of the Santa Cruz Yacht Club, was in second place in Division II following the first day of the TransPacific Yacht Race on Thursday.

The Transpac, with its start in Los Angeles, is a sailing race to Hawaii.

The Buona Sera, skippered by Ed Marez, had sailed 35 nautical miles since its morning start, according to the latest race report. Pyewacket, an Andrews 68, was in first place in Division II.

Merlin, also out of the Santa Cruz Yacht Club and skippered by Bill and Lu Lee, was in fifth place in Division II although on roughly the same path as Pyewacket.
