If you have been thinking about joining SCYC, now is the time.
The Santa Cruz Yacht Club was founded on the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf in 1928 and was moved to its present location in 1964. The Santa Cruz Yacht Club is a member of the PICYA (Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association of Northern California). First and foremost, the Santa Cruz Yacht Club exists to promote the “Good of Yachting.” Yacht Club members have been credited for inventing ultra light displacement boats (ULDB’s) that have revolutionized sailboat racing. Consequently, the club is known worldwide.
The Club has many different functions. The primary functions include: sailboat racing, cruising, fishing, social events, and a fantastic junior sailing program. Some of the major events held at the Club include the Windjammers Regatta, the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Benefit Regatta, one design races, SCORE (Santa Cruz Ocean Racing Extravaganza), the West Marine Fun Regatta which benefits junior sailing, as well as local national, world, and Olympic class regattas. The Club also hosts the Lighted Boat Parade during the holiday season.
Member privileges include: the use of a private club, participation in regattas, reciprocal privileges with other yacht clubs, social events, fundraising events, dinners, camaraderie, networking with other boaters, the use of the hoist and showers, a discount for dry storage, and the option to rent the clubhouse for private parties. Members of the Santa Cruz Yacht Club enjoy a casual environment, comfortable surroundings, a convenient location, a friendly and accessible Board of Directors, and the opportunity to explore new boating ideas and to learn or fine-tune old ones.
The clubhouse is open Wednesday (daylight savings time only), Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The club office is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. We have an excellent chef, who prepares meals Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday nights and who also caters private parties. The clubhouse has a large deck overlooking the harbor, a commercial kitchen, bar, dining room, stereo, television, fireplace, barbecue, and shower facilities. Adjacent to the clubhouse is a large dry storage yard. The Club owns a safety boat and various classes of small sailboats used in the junior sailing program.
The Santa Cruz Yacht Club charges initiation fees and annual dues that vary depending on the type of membership. The most common membership categories are: Regular, Corinthian, Non-resident, and Junior. If you are interested in applying for membership, please contact the club office - 831-425-0690.
